Mike White, Why is the meet not going to happen? Lack of entries is your fault for not sending them out in time! I know at least 12 people training for this meet! What about the last three months we have been training for this meet? What about people that have already taken time off work and made travel and hotel plans? How much could it cost you to open your gym and let people lift in a meet? You should run the meet no matter how many people sign up! You said you were going to have a meet, put it on! If its because your not making any money I have a big surprise for you, WE DON"T DO IT FOR THE CASH! Are you not the President or leader of the the APF/AAPF in Michigan? You dropped the ball on this one. The Wolverine was one of the longest running meets in Michigan and you blew it. And as for December or any other meet you put on, I can't afford to waste time and money training for your contests that might or might not happen because you may or may not have your correct number of lifters to turn a buck! A VERY ANGRY Ken Richardson

This will be my only reply, for their will be many unhappy people. I am truly sorry for canceling this meet. But I can not afford to spend over $3000 on 15-20 lifters. Every year the meet cost $$ out of my pocket. Their is indeed no $$$ in this sport! I do not live in a huge town, with lots of willing sponsors, so I have to pay for everything myself. I know i got the form out later than normal, but I personaly mailed them to every lifter on my list, over 60 people. I only had 15 by the due date.So I waited, I got 5 more postmarked in time!!And not 1 more after that. I can not put that much of my personal $$$ on the line! I have all ready spent (thousands) on the equipment you use at these meets. Sure I could have put on a back door meet for you, with no cash prize,no free food, no trophies, no gift bags, and made it take 12 hours to run with nutsty platform help, but every one else who was exspecting the meet that they are used to would have been pissed.
Lets do the math?
Venue-my gym. I have to shut down for 3 days, setup, meetday, clean. thats 3 days of lost revenew $300-$500 per day.
P/A system-$200
Portajohns-$300
Tables/chairs-$175
Food-$200
Trophies-$800-$1000
Cash Prize-$1000 (last 2 years $2000)
Sanction fee-$30
2 Drug kits for aapf lifters-$160
Tee shirts $500-$800 (Ive never sold more than half @ the meet)
And their is always miss nuts that I can forget or break.
So 20 lifters @ $60 = $1200
and 50 spectaters @ $5 =$250
and some tee shirts, and food =$300-$400
Thats $1850 grossed on a good day with only 20 lifters!
MY actual cost is around $5000. Thats $3100 out of my pocket?
